About Me

I am a passionate, hardworking and quirky individual who lives and breathes design. I have enjoyed Art and Design ever since I can remember. I studied Art at GCSE and A-Level and also Design & Technology. This led me on to choosing to go to University to learn new techniques and thought processes to create innovative work. I like projects to be stimulating and a challenge to keep me interested and motivated.

Design Influences

Daniel Libeskind, Sir Richard Rogers, William Burgess, Frank Lloyd Wright, Elisabeth Hoff, Grant Thomas, Lady Gaga, Gareth Pugh.

Design Splat

Many people ask me why I do what I do with Design Splat. Here I will take a couple of lines to clarify why!

I know how difficult and tough any aspect of the design industry can be to get into and to get your work recognised. I love networking and meeting new people and thought it would be a great idea to meet similar minded people, meet contacts in the design world and to give something back to them by featuring them and their work. So then idea evolved. It took around 3 months after the blog was set up to come up with the name after many long lists of ideas! Design Splat was then born. I was then getting several hundred hits a week and people emailing to ask to be featured which is a privilege! I really enjoy making the interviews and reading the responses! I have had so many great features and no lie I enjoy every one of them!

University

I am currently a second year student studying a BA (Hons) Interior Design degree. My first year of my degree at University was amazing. I was really passionate about the work and as a result worked hard and got good marks! Currently the second year is a bit slow. It’s all a bit repetitive but I know I will have to keep at it to graduate and move on to the things that I really want to do after, and it’s the thought of what is out there for me after University that keeps me going.

How I got to where I am:

I studied Art & Design at GCSE and A-Level. I then moved on to do a Foundation course which covered every aspect of design. I was in two minds of what to do as a degree. It was between Graphic Design and Interior Design. If I went back in time Photography would probably have been an option too! I chose Interior Design as I felt it would be more of a challenge. I love all aspect of design and not a day goes by without an idea coming into my head. Hard work and persistence is something that’s key to get you somewhere in the design world. I hope to make it somewhere in the design world one day!

Plans for the future

No one really knows what the future holds and I am not one for planning but I have some ideas of things that I want to do and achieve. After graduating I hope to either stay in Wales or go to London. Eventually I would like to end up running my own business – doing what? Who knows! I want experience in EVERY aspect of the design field. I don’t like the thought of being under one title “Interior Designer.” I want to be a “Designer.” I believe any design subject can overlap and be used in another. Graphics to fashion, fashion to interior spaces etc. I will continue to write Design Splat and keep making it exciting and interesting until I have featured every designer in the country or my readers get bored!
